  1. For what it's worth, my response to this question is, "Yes. Donald Trump's endorsement of Mitt Romney will have an effect. A negative one. Trump is an ego-maniacal gasbag, and apparently doesn't remember all the nasty stuff he'd said on tape about Mitt. Mitt would've score leadership points by saying, 'no thanks; we'll not kiss the ring of this blowhard." Instead, a press conference is called in Las Vegas and The Donald has his massive ego and own version of Big Hair stroked."

  2. I agree. An endorsement from Donald Trump would be the kiss of death for any candidate, not to mention Romney who is already criticized heavily for his massive wealth.

  3. I was planning on writing something to go along with this website link and unintentionally posted it without doing so. Sorry about that.

I am just curious as to how big of a role endorsements play in an election. I don't feel that they are likely to have much influence upon individuals that already have a pretty good idea about who they are going to vote for. Do they have a large impact on undecided voters, though? What about media endorsements, from large newspapers? Does the public really value these opinions? If so, to what extent?

  4. Then there's also celebrity endorsements. Just after posting my last comment I discovered this news story.

  5. I feel like the celebrity endorsement of candidates is a double-edged sword. For people that do not pay attention to politics, but may pay attention to pop-culture, it can be a way to get them involved. If they see an actor that they like supporting a candidate, that could pique their interest and send them researching. On the opposite side, it also sends a bad message, they are celebrities endorsing a political figure. It can be seen as saying, "I am a wealthy celebrity and I like this person. If you are my fan, you should too." I am of the opinion that tends to be the ladder in terms of celebrity endorsements.
